Remote teaching and learning Winter semester 2020/21

UDE is having another hybrid semester. This means that the faculties are predominantly offering remote options for the classes offered in the winter semester 2020/21. However, it will presumably be possible to conduct selected classes that require the use of specific premises (e.g. laboratory practicals) with smaller groups.

Tests [17.12.2020]

  • Examinations for the winter semester 2020/21

Please find up-to-date information on examinations on the web pages of the Examinations Office (information only available in German): https://www.uni-due.de/verwaltung/pruefungswesen/aktuelles.php

The examination period for the winter semester will take place between 13 February 2021 and 10 April 2021.

The registration period for examinations in the winter semester 2020/21 was from 30 November 2020 to 11 December 2020.
During this period, you could register for your examinations via the campus management system as usual

Protecting the health of our staff and students is very important to us.
Therefore, rooms will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between all uses, including the face-to-face examinations that are currently held, in order to further improve the safety of all individuals present. In addition, examination rooms are aired out for one hour after each use.

Please adhere to the measures defined in the information sheet for students on the procedure for face-to-face examinations in order to protect yourself and others in the best possible way.

  • Submission of bachelor's and master's theses
From Wednesday December 16th 2020 you can submit (bachelor’s/master’s) theses in digital form. Please submit a PDF version of your thesis by e-mail to your first examiner, your second examiner and to the person responsible for your respective degree programme at the Examinations Office (to be found at http://www.uni-due.de/verwaltung/pruefungswesen/studiengaenge.shtml).
However, the printed and bound versions must be submitted latest two weeks after the lockdown restrictions lift and printing services are available again. These are to be submitted as usual, i.e. three printed and bound copies in DIN A4 format.
  • Disadvantage-compensating regulations
In particular, we will continue to focus on students who take on care tasks for underage children and relatives in need of care, as well as students who are pregnant, students with disabilities, and students with chronic or mental impairments. Individual compensations for disadvantages are intended to prevent these students from being disadvantaged in their special situation, who are often faced with special challenges due to the effects of the corona pandemic, when providing study and examination services. In principle, compensation for disadvantages is granted by the respective examination board and should be addressed to them accordingly. Due to the special current situation, all university offices are called upon and endeavour to find solutions for individual concerns as quickly and with as little bureaucracy as possible. First of all, talk to your lecturer to see if there are any helpful regulations. Alternatively, or in the event of no success, you can contact the Dean of Studies.

Teacher related questions [25.08.2020]

Stays abroad

According to Section 11 (10.1) of the Teacher Training Act (LABG), students aiming to teach modern foreign languages in schools must spend three months abroad in the course of their studies. For the time being, the coronavirus pandemic is an impediment to mobility. Thus, not all student have the opportunity to provide proof of their stay abroad in due time. Students who aim to teach English or Turkish in schools and have yet to spend time abroad are requested to contact the relevant subject-specific advisors for English or Turkish respectively at the Faculty of Humanities if they have any questions relating to exceptions or alternative options.

Semesters abroad

Students who aim to teach French or Spanish in schools and are currently abroad or planning to go abroad in the upcoming semesters are requested to contact the subject-specific advisors for Romance studies at the Faculty of Humanities.

Corona Epidemic University Ordinance

UDE’s University Board has approved a directive regarding the implementation of the Corona Epidemic University Ordinance (CEHVO), which has taken effect on 14 May 2020. This UDE directive regulates free-attempt (i.e. not counting towards the maximum number of attempts allowed) and repetition options for examinations, extensions of standard periods of study and additional compensation for disadvantages under the current overall conditions resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.

Bafög Subsidies

  • In North Rhine-Westphalia, the extended standard period of study is to be accompanied by an increase in the maximum eligibility period for BAföG funding. Since the standard period of study is officially extended by one semester, students are also to receive BAföG for an additional semester.
  • The Federal Minister of Education has promised that BAföG grants will continue to be paid even during the closures caused by the COVID 19 pandemic. The precautionary measures will not put BAföG recipients at a disadvantage. The BMBF has made this clear in a decree to the BAföG offices.
Further information is available at https://www.bafög.de/keine-nachteile-beim-bafoeg-wegen-corona-756.php.
  • The BAföG entitlement remains even in the case of commitment against corona pandemic, so that additional earnings are worthwhile. Anyone who is involved in the fight against the current corona pandemic in the health care system, in social institutions or in agriculture will only receive additional income for the time of their work. A corresponding amendment to the law has been adopted. If, for example, students with medical knowledge get involved in the health care system, this is a valuable contribution to overcoming the pandemic crisis.
