Role and Key Responsibilities of the Vice-Rectorate
- Key Principles Underpinning the Partnership between University and Society

- Drafting social responsibility guidelines
- Drafting decisions about the principles underlying the mandate for inclusive education, the development of viable scientific standards, and the contribution towards a sustainable social and economic transformation in the Rhine and Ruhr regions
- Developing the Infrastructure for Partnerships between University and Society

- Expanding and consolidating regionally embedded collaboration as well as further development of international partnerships and contacts. Developing a draft plan for an international network of post-industrial regional science and research hubs.
- Supporting pilot projects funded by third parties for sustainable and inclusive social and infrastructural change
- Developing the principles and models underpinning educational equity and participation in scientific knowledge building (in partnership with the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning and the Vice-Rector for Research, Career Development & Science Transfer)
- Embedding of Research and Teaching at UDE

- Providing structured incentives for research in the fields of social engagement, diversity, and international openness (in partnership with the Vice-Rector for Research, Career Development & Science Transfer)
- Hardwiring social responsibility, diversity, and international openness into quality improvement and quality assurance tools
- Opening up and rendering more flexible the range and structure of degree courses offered at the university, opening the university to “non-traditional target groups” (in partnership with the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning)
- Strengthening all university staff’s understanding and application of diversity principles
- Supervising equality initiatives; systematically incorporating gender and inclusion strategies in HR policies and the introduction of measures to make the university a family-friendly place to work and study
- Supporting Research, Teaching and Administration of Science with an Explicit International Focus

- Collaborating with the German Academic Exchange Service and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s programme for increasing the international mobility of researchers and scientists
- Supporting the relevant Commissions with the recruitment of international researchers and scientists
- Strengthening the Erasmus Exchange Programme for students and lecturers
